Loving the Recycling

Loving the Recycling

You may think that we are a little crazy, but Louise and I are loving our weekends in the shed recycling your used pods. Getting in there smashing capsules in our chipper, dripping sweat whilst we sieve the coffee from the plastic, or making concrete using the crushed-up plastic. You name it – we are into it.

Louise is one of those creative types. She’s right into designing, creating and testing how to make plant pots from our plastic infused concrete. We reckon we are a few steps away from creating pots that you can put on your window sill or deck next summer. How “green” would it be to grow things in a pot, made in part with your used pods, and filled with compost containing your used coffee grinds! No single use plastic with Coffee Capsules 2U!

The bricks we made a while back have passed the weather test. We stuck a test batch outside for 8 months and they now look like….bricks! So we are now full swing into production of our hand made concrete bricks that’ll become a feature in our garden in spring.  One of our customers (Nicole from Whangarei) has even asked to buy some!

We started CC2U because we wanted to make sure there was a good ethical and kiwi focused supplier of coffee capsules to NZ. We are a hands on small Kiwi business. All our processes have to be simple, effective and cost as little as possible (so that you don't have to pay more for your coffee than you should do). Maggie from Pukekohe asked me today if we had a distribution centre. I replied “I’m married to the distribution centre and she’s packing coffee right next to me”. That’s us – a kiwi business – with a personality. (Read more About Us).

Return and Recycle is a big part of who we are. Giving up our weekends to sieve coffee is, well …. completely nuts! We sometimes look up from the clouds of coffee dust and think “maybe we should have gone to the beach”. However, we are driven to do good things for New Zealand. Like if you sell coffee capsules you have to give a genuine recycle option. We want to stand up and show that in New Zealand we don’t talk about problems we get on and solve them. It’s a good buzz to do something unique that is doing good for New Zealand. You feel like you can walk in the local pub -  staunch, proud - and your mates will say “Jeez, you stink of coffee!”

Whether or not you choose to recycle, you too can feel part of something good. Good and a bit batty. That’s a lot of fun. Maybe as Kiwi as Fred Dagg, Bert Munro and Country Calendar all rolled up into one.

It’s so good to be drinking and enjoying capsule coffee knowing that you are taking the used capsules and making something useful. Cheers to you both.
